In order to solve the problem of severe roof pressure in the working face of the coal mining area of the south No. 5 lower coal seam of the Malan Mine, theoretical analysis and numerical calculations showed that the main reason for the severe pressure was the hard top roof and the sub-critical layer above it. The deep hole blasting roof pre-splitting technology was used to control. The parameters of pre-splitting drilling were designed according to the specific geological and mining technical conditions of the 18509 working face. The roof was drilled during field application. By monitoring the pressure of the hydraulic support, the results showed that after deep-hole blasting, the roof cracks within 30 m above the working surface were well developed. The initial pressure of the working surface and the periodic pressure step were significantly reduced, and the roof of the working surface was significantly reduced. Compressive strength was reduced, which ensured safe and efficient production on the working surface.
