There are intricate abandoned roadways in some coal seams of mines, and the supports do not connect to the roof during the mining process, which can easily lead to roof collapse accidents and affect safety production. Based on No.30207 Face of the Muduchaideng Mine, research was conducted on the technology of using high water material pillars to pass through empty roadways. A mechanical model of the roof of the working face passing through the goaf was established, and the stress analysis was carried out to obtain the critical working resistance of the support during the passage through the goaf, and the technical difficulties were analyzed. Measures such as stopping mining and ensuring the working resistance of high water material piers, columns, and supports were proposed. The application showed that during the passage of empty tunnels, the roof of the tunnel was stable, and there was no large-scale collapse of the working face, achieving significant economic and social benefits.
