Effect of impurity iron on performance of titanium dioxide and its mechanism analysis

TiO2 in titanium dioxide was doped by Fe2O3, a common chromogenic impurity, the influences of these two impurities on the properties of TiO2 were studied. The products are characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, colorimeter and X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. The results show that the presence of Fe3+ promoted the transformation from anatase type to rutile type, and promoted the sintering and growth of TiO2 particles; a new phase Fe2Ti3O9 was formed after calcination when the doping amount of Fe2O3 was 1.8%; the yellow phase index of titanium dioxide was increased and the whiteness of titanium dioxide products was reduced becouse of the existence of Fe impurity.
