The problems of difficult shearer cutting, low advancing efficiency and high pick consumption encountered when passing through hard rock faults in fully mechanized mining faces were addressed. A combination of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and field tests was adopted for the research. Based on LS-DYNA software, rock fracturing effects under different blasting parameters were simulated and analyzed. The optimal scheme was determined with a borehole diameter of 94 mm, a hole spacing of 2.0 m and rhombic hole arrangement. Field tests showed that the strength of hard rock in faults was effectively weakened by this scheme. Pick wear was reduced by more than 40%, the mining face advancing speed was stabilized at 3.5 m/d, and the construction period was shortened by 20%. Meanwhile, surrounding rock stability and equipment safety were not affected. The research results were provided as technical references for fault-crossing construction in similar mines.
