To ensure the stability of the mining gateway in No.31 coal seam of Shigetai Mine, a study on pressure relief and roadway protection technology was carried out in No.31104 main transport gateway. By comparing the advantages and disadvantages of different pressure relief methods, the segmented borehole hydraulic fracturing and segmented roof cutting method was selected. On the basis of analyzing the roof cutting mechanism, the key parameters such as roof cutting height, angle, water injection pressure and borehole spacing were calculated and determined. Two types of boreholes, A and B, were arranged in the main transport gateway, and fracturing was performed every 3 meters with the fracturing time of 30 minutes. The application showed that after hydraulic fracturing, the integrity of the roof surrounding rock was greatly reduced, the deformation speed of the roadway was significantly slowed down, and the deformation amount was reduced by more than 70%, achieving an ideal fracturing effect.
