Abstract: Lucheng Coal Industry formed a large number of accumulated water old mined-out areas in the mining of No.5 coal seam. There was a possibility that accumulated water would flow into the working face of No.3 coal seam through the water conduction fracture zone, forming the risk of water damage. The simulated mining of No.5 and No.3 coal seams was carried out, and the harm of water accumulation in goaf was analyzed. The method of detecting and releasing water in old goaf and designing waterproof wall in adjacent goaf was put forward to prevent and control water damage. In the practical application of No.1220 face, it was showed that the mining operation was stable for 120 days, the working face was smoothly mined for 430 m, the coal mining volume was 52 300 t, there was no water inflow during the mining process, and the water accumulation in the goaf was effectively controlled.
