Dibutyl glutarate was synthesized from glutaric acid and n -butanol with sodium bisulfate as catalyst and cyclohexane as the taking water reagent.Various factors such as the molar ratio of n -butanol to glutaric.reaction time and amount of catalyst which would influence the reaction were studied. The optimum synthetic reaction conditions of dibutyl glutarate were determined that the molar ratio of n -butanol to glutaric acid was 3∶1,amount of catalyst was 0.25 g,the taking water reagent was 15 mL and the reaction time was 1.5 h,the esterification ratio was 98.6%.The experimental results showed that sodium bisulfate was an excellent catalyst for dibutyl glutarata.
