The cholesterol sensors used for the determination of cholesterol content by electrochemical method are very popular because of their convenient operation, low cost, on-line detection, and good sensitivity and rapidity. The preparation methods and applications of Luminol electrochemiluminescence cholesterol sensor, graphene-doped cholesterol sensor and conductive polypyrrole cholesterol sensor were reviewed. The advantages and disadvantages of these sensors were described and compared. It is proposed that the study of the cholesterol sensor with low cost, high selectivity and high sensitivity was an important topic at present.
