The coal pillar recovery of the Sijiazhuang Mine in Yangquan Mining Group was taken as the engineering background, the numerical simulation was used to study the stress variation and the deformation law of the surrounding rock width of different narrow coal pillars along the goaf. The research showed that during the mining, the increase of the width of the narrow coal pillar led to an increase of the internal stress concentration factor; during the mining period, the narrow coal pillar with a large width could withstand the high lead support pressure due to the strong bearing capacity of the coal pillar, and the surrounding rock stress increased greatly. Combined with the deformation of the coal pillar and the function of the isolated goaf, it was more appropriate to take the coal pillar recovery working face along the width of the coal pillar of the gob side mining by 5 m.
