The side of the 8402 working face of the No. 4 mining area of Yangquan Mining Industry (Group) Corporation Ltd. was the goaf area, with soft goaf side, poor stability of the roof, and easy falling during mining. The serious deformation of the roadway was the main problem affecting the mining, which restricted the efficient and intensive production. Combined with the site conditions, the design of the goaf side roadway along the roof was given and the roadway support design was optimized. The engineering practice proved that after adopting this scheme, the deformation displacement of the roof and the sides were significantly reduced. The amount of support works was reduced by 5%, the support cost was saved by 280,000 yuan, and the monthly advancement level was increased from 120 m/month to 200 m/month to improve the safety of support, which laid the foundation for the safe production of mines and achieved good results.
