Stress accumulation and redistribution phenomenon appeared in the process of tunnel excavation caused by damaging original stress field, the study of damage range of surrounding rock deformation in process of rectangular roadway made a difference in supporting design and supporting material selection. Firstly, factors influencing surrounding rock deformation were analyzed. Then, UDEC numerical simulation was used to investigate surrounding rock damage range and distribution characteristics of stress in process of roadway excavation. The results showed that both sides of roadway appeared stress accumulation, top and bottom appeared stress unloading; damage range above and below the roadway were 6m and 4.5 m respectively, and damage range of left and right sides was 4 m.
