Ethylene is the basic raw material of petrochemical industry. It has always been known as the "mother of petrochemical industry", and it is also one of the important symbols to measure the development level of petrochemical industry in a country. Countries all over the world have adapted measures to local conditions to develop their own ethylene industry. Based on this, through the investigation of ethylene market demand at home and abroad, the future development trend of ethylene was speculated in the world. Through the analysis of the development status and economy of various ethylene preparation technologies, such as naphtha cracking, methanol to olefins and ethanol dehydration, the future ethylene technology market will still be dominated by petroleum cracking, supplemented by non-petroleum-based raw materials. It is proposed China's fossil resource endowment is characterized by "rich coal, poor oil, less gas", so coal (syngas) based ethanol through dehydration route to ethylene has more cost advantages.
