Application of flame arresters in modern petroleum and natural gas industry

In order to ensure the safety of combustible gas emission pipelines, gas phase connection pipelines, fuel gas pipelines, and combustible gas treatment facilities in the oil and gas industry, and to prevent fire and explosion accidents caused by flashback, the current status of pipeline flame arresters in the oil and gas industry by analyzing the ignition and explosion mechanism, flame combustion propagation characteristics, and combining with relevant industry standards and engineering cases at home and abroad were comprehensively analyzed and summarized. It is concluded that only pipeline systems with low pressure and atmospheric storage media such as Class A and Class B fire hazards are likely to form explosive mixtures, causing flashback and fire and explosion. When selecting flame arresters, the type of flame arrester should be reasonably determined based on their applicable media and installation location. Explosion proof flame arresters should be selected for pipeline end installations, Explosion proof flame arresters should be selected for installation in pipelines. The results show that in order to Class A and Class B pressurized storage combustible medium pipeline systems, since there is no possibility of producing explosive mixtures, there will be no backfire, and the relevant pipelines do not need to be equipped with flame arresters.
