To enhance the stability of the surrounding rock at roadway three forks area and ensure safe production in coal mines, No.1 and No.2 return airways of No.8101 Face in Wangzhuang Mine was taken as a case study, a stability control scheme for the surrounding rock at the three forks area was investigated using numerical simulation, theoretical analysis, and on-site monitoring. The results showed that:①Compressive-shear and tensile failure occured in the peripheral area of the triangular zone due to excavation disturbance, leading to the transfer of the load to the deeper part and the formation of internal stress concentration;② The combined support system of bolts, metal mesh, and cable bolts effectively controlled the deformation of the roof and rib of the roadway, significantly enhancing the stability of the surrounding rock; ③The measured results showed that the convergence of the roof and floor was 161 mm, the convergence of the two sides was 78 mm, the deformation rate was less than 0.5 mm / d and continued to converge, and the stability of the surrounding rock was significantly improved. The research results provided technical references for the control of surrounding rock in similar roadway conditions.
