A rapid and accurate method for the determination of thorium and uranium in coal gangue was established by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) , using nitric acid-hydrofluoric acid-hydrogen peroxide system for microwave digestion of samples. The optimum sample treatment conditions were determined through experiments, Rhodium was used as the internal standard to correct the matrix interference, the detection limits of thorium and uranium were 0.006 6 and 0.002 8 μg/g, respectively, and the linear correlation coefficients of the standard curves were >0.999 9. The experimental method was applied to the analysis of actual samples of coal gangue, the relative standard deviation (RSD, n=11) of the determination results was 0.75% - 2.54%, and the recovery rate of spiked standard was 98.00% - 103.60%. The content of thorium and uranium in coal gangue by ICP-MS method can accurately determine, which has certain guiding significance for preventing and controlling its pollution to the environment and evaluating the value of industrial utilization.
