Macrokinetics of sulfite oxidation inhibited by Glycerol in a organic amine wet flue gas desulfurization process

It is necessary to slow down the oxidation rate of sulfite so as to improve the economical benefit and the recycling process feasibility of organic amine wet flue gas desulfurization. The macrokinetics of sulfite oxidation inhibited by Glycerol were investigated in an bland aqueous solution of N, N′-bis (2-hydroxypropyl) piperazine (HPP) and 1-(2-hydroxyethy) piperazine (HEP) using a batch stirred reactor. The effects of initial S4+ concentration Cs, Gly concentration CGly, amine concentration CN, pH value and temperature T on the oxidation reaction rate r are discussed. The results show that in the range of pH vaule 5.5 to 6.5, r decreases with the increase of pH vaule, Gly concentration and amine concentration, but increases with temperature. And the apparent activation energy of S4+ oxidation reaction is 12.22 kJ/mol. An empirical macrokinetic equation of Gly inhibiting S4+ oxidation is established, as the following form of r=■C■·exp(■)·10■ in the organic amine system.
