In order to ensure the safe mining of 3218 working face in Shanxi Yangcheng Yangtai Group Jingxing Coal Industry, based on the specific conditions of the working face, through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, the distribution law of stress and plastic zone in the surrounding rock was analyzed. The main factors influencing the basic roof in the goaf were the yield deformation of the coal column width. The ratio of plastic yield failure in coal pillar decreased with the increase of width of coal pillar. Combined with the numerical simulation results and the specific situation of the working face, it was determined that the working face area over the empty roadway adopted the monolithic column + wood pile support method, steel fiber wedge method in the falling area. and the working face over the risk is supported by the coal column and wood pile support method. The results showed that the support adaptability was good when the working face mining through the empty roadway area, and the working face passed the empty roadway and caving area.
