Aiming at the remarkable problem of coal wall caving in fully mechanized face with large mining height in soft coal seam, by means of numerical simulation, field measurement and comparative analysis, the scale effect of coal cutting height in large mining height working face was studied, and the reasonable mining height of large mining height working face was determined based on the research results. The results showed that the ultimate mining height of large mining height working face in No. 9 coal seam of Kaiyuan Mine was not more than 6.0 m, and the safe mining height was about 4.8m. After strengthening the management of the working face, the mining speed of the working face and the initial support force of the support were properly increased, which improved the safe mining of the working face.
