Aiming at the serious and frequent revival of spontaneous combustion in Xujialing coal gangue of Wangtaipu coal mine, the location and range of the fire area and the main air leakage channel were determined by the combination of thermal imager, thermocouple and breeze instrument. The comprehensive control scheme of loess cover and deep-shallow grouting is put forward, meanwhile the changes of the internal temperature and the related gas content of the gangue before and after grouting were compared and analyzed. The results show that there are three points, two of which are located on the slope of the gangue hill, one at the top of the slope and the total fire area is 4300 m2. The volume percentage of loess, lime and viscous material in the grouting material is 60.4%, 39.2%, 0.4%, water volume ratio of 4∶1; after grouting the internal temperature of waste gangue falls below100 ℃, SO2, CO and other harmful gases also reduced to 20ppm, 50ppm or less, making an ideal fire extinguishing effect.
