Phosphatidic acid(PA) is the basic composition of cell membrane, nuclear membrane and plasmid membrane of the animal and plant, and also is the foundation of life. PA can be used in food, medicine and cosmetics. PA’s nature and structure was introduced and its preparation methods and detection methods were introduced in detail. PA’s preparation methods include the thin layer chromatography (TLC), solvent extraction, enzyme modification, chemical synthesis. Meanwhile, PA’s detection methods include thin layer chromatography (TLC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). It is prospected that the PA’s research devevopment tendency will focus on the industrialized preparation technology,so its application scope can be enlarged.
