In view of the engineering problems of surrounding rock structure deformation and roof fall risk under the condition of conventional support in roadway with thick coal seam and gangue roof, the transportation roadway of No.8223 Face in Yangquan No.5 Mine was taken as the engineering background, the existing support system was systematically optimized and designed by combining theoretical calculation with numerical simulation. A new combined support structure of " three-center arch U-shaped steel shed + anchor cable beam + lock leg beam " was proposed, which improved the stability control of deep complex roof roadway. The field monitoring data showed that the convergence and roof displacement of the optimized support section were reduced by 31.8% and 36.8% compared with the comparison area, which significantly improved the mechanical response performance of the surrounding rock self-supporting system.
