Fushun-type internal-heating low-temperature retorting process for oil shale is the core technology for industrial shale oil production in China, characterized by mature technology, strong adaptability and stable operation. As an industry benchmark, the Shale Oil Refinery of Fushun Mining Group treated approximately 14 million tons of oil shale annually during the 14th Five-Year Plan period was accompanied by a large amount of solid waste producing nearly 460,000 tons of shale oil per year. The principle of the Fushun-type refining process and the whole-process waste generation links was systematically expounded, the types of solid wastes such as retorted semi-coke, oily sludge, dust removal ash, sewage treatment sludge and waste catalysts were identified . Based on the measured data of Fushun Mining Group during the 14th Five-Year Plan, it quantifies the output and physical-chemical properties of various solid wastes. The environmental hazards, safety risks and ecological impacts were analyzed one by one according to waste types. By comparing with similar processes in Huadian (Jilin) and Yaojie (Gansu) in China, the differences in solid waste generation and management were summarized. The reslut showed that the plant produces about 13.55 million tons of solid waste annually, of which retorted semi-coke accounts for 91.80%, and oily sludge is the main hazardous waste. Uncontrolled storage is likely to cause dust, spontaneous combustion, leachate pollution, soil and groundwater damage and other problems. Compared with domestic counterparts, the Fushun-type process features stable solid waste output and clear classification, but there is still room for improvement in resource utilization rate. It provided data support and theoretical reference for source control, comprehensive treatment and green transformation of solid wastes in the oil shale industry.
