Abstract: In this paper, by selecting five different coal samples, adding different proportions of magnesium oxide, after grinding, coal blending, molding, carbonization, activation and other preparation processes, using iodine number, attrition value, molasses number and magnesium oxide content as evaluation indexes, magnesium oxide loaded activated carbon was prepared. The results indicated that when the ratio of No. 1 coal to No. 2 coal and magnesium oxide is 9∶1∶0.3, and the ratio of No. 4 coal to No. 5 coal and magnesium oxide is 4∶6∶0.3, the magnesium oxide loaded activated carbon samples with iodine number ≥950 mg/g, molasses number ≥210, attrition value ≥65% and MgO content 5%~8% can be prepared, meeting the expected target. Thereinto, when the ratio of No. 4 coal to No. 5 coal and magnesium oxide is 4∶6∶0.3 and the activation yield is 25.62%, the sample with iodine number 1 057 mg/g, molasses number 282, attrition value 77% and MgO content 6.3% can be prepared.
