The present research status and technical progress of azobenzene-containing poly methylmethacrylate (PMMA) were reviewed. Azo-doped PMMAs and copolymers of MMA with azo monomers as well as their applications in optoelectronic materials were emphatically introduced. The development trends and prospects of azobenzene-containing PMMA were also analyzed and forecasted.It was pointed out that it would become the focus to explore the functionalized photoresponsive polymers with a higher glass transition temperature, an appropriate azo chromophore content, as well as better film forming properties.
