With the continuous extension of coal mining to the deep in North China coal field, the mine safety guarantee problem of large buried depth production is more and more prominent, especially the structural water diversion problem which has great influence on deep coal seam mining. At the same time, the structural exploration of deep coal seam is facing the problem of lack of refinement of traditional geophysical exploration and drilling methods. In order to solve this problem, the north wing mining area of Xin'an Mine of Fengfeng Group was selected as the research object, and the horizontal branch drilling construction was carried out by using the directional drilling technology. At the same time, combined with the stratigraphic correlation and comprehensive analysis, the following conclusions were drawn: ①the directional horizontal drilling technology has the advantage of comprehensive coverage for the structural exploration of large mining depth; ② the construction process of horizontal branch hole is the result of exploration-governance-exploration;③the directional horizontal drilling can be carried out before the panel layout to detect in advance, so as to achieve the purpose of advanced exploration and governance.
