Microplastics widely exist in water environment, known as "PM2.5 in water". As a new type of environmental pollutant, microplastics pose a serious threat to human health and ecological environment, and its pollution in water has become a global environmental problem of high concern. Based on the related research in recent years, the sources of micro-plastics in water, the pollution status and environmental effects of micro-plastics in marine and terrestrial freshwater environments were reviewed, and the corresponding hazard prevention mechanisms were put forward, that is, to control the pollution of micro-plastics at the source and at the end respectively. It is pointed out that based on the concept of sustainable utilization of human water resources, new technologies and schemes for solving micro-plastic pollution in water should be explored in the future.
