In the face of many mining faces in the old mining area, there is a difficult problem of upward mining. The upward mining is mainly faced with gangue operation and mine pressure appearance. In order to study the feasibility of ascending mining on the 2-213 working face, the numerical simulation method is applied in this paper. The results show that the 4-1 coal seam is mainly affected by the pressure relief effect under the influence of 7 coal seam mining. After 7 coal seam mining, the maximum subsidence of the 4-1 seam is 1.8m, and the dip angle of the 4-1 coal seam is 1.8 to 2.2 degrees in the middle part of the goaf. The integrity and continuity of coal seam are not obviously damaged. The numerical results show that the implementation of upward mining in the 4-1 coal seam of S3 mining area is feasible.
