Preparation of Chitosan / Polyvinyl alcohol Macropore Gel Scaffolds

The macroporous gel scaffolds were prepared by chitosan and polyvinyl alcohol ( PVA ). The effects of addition amount of PVA and temperature on forming time and strength of gel, and the impact of time on gel strength were discussed in detail. The gel structure was also characterized by SEM. The results show that with the increase of PVA content, the gel time increases and gel strength has a maximum value, while with the increase of temperature, time and intensity of gel decrease gradually. The gel strength also increases significantly with the extension of time. The gel has inhomogeneous void structure and obvious microphase separation, the pore size distribution is between 100-500 μm and sheet PVA uniformly disperse in the chitosan matrix.
