Immunosuppressive drugs have been widely used in organ transplantation and treatment of autoimmune disease. At present, many adverse reactions exist in clinical use of these agents. In order to obtain better treatment effect, researchers have exploited some novel immunosuppressants which are high efficient and low toxicity. The mechanisms, clinical applications and adverse reactions of FTY720, FK-778, everolimus and efalizumab were summarized. It was pointed out that the development of new type, efficient, low toxicity and low price immunosuppressants and the formation of new treatments are still one of the important research topics for immunopharmacology workers.
