Due to the large-scale mining of coal, geological disasters occur frequently in the mining area and the surrounding areas, and the related problems become increasingly prominent. It is very important to monitor the surface subsidence in the mining area. The advantages and disadvantages of the common method to mining subsidence monitoring were analyzed and the development of precise point positioning (PPP) was summarized. The mining subsidence monitoring method based on the precise point positioning was put forward according to its advantage. The application of this technology in surface subsidence monitoring in Yangquan mining area was introduced, which provided decision-making basis for rational exploitation of underground mineral resources and control of land subsidence, and was of great significance to the sustainable development of mining area.
