In order to reduce the damage to the surface water resources, it was proposed to adopt the water retention mining technology to realize the recovery of Qinglong Mine No.9 coal seam. Based on the investigation of the current water conservation mining technology, the water content and water insulation of the overlying rock strata of No.9 coal were analyzed. The height of the top plate fracture zone was estimated according to 15 times of mining height., the No. 9 coal seam was classified to dangerous, medium safe and safe zones. Based on a comprehensive comparison of various water-holding mining methods, it was decided to adopt the filling and water-holding mining technology, which maximized the recovered coal resources but minimum ecological disturbance.
