In the temperature range of 293~ 393 K, the thermal stability of glycerol was studied by variable temperature infrared spectrum ( including variable temperature one-dimensional infrared spectrum and second derivative infrared spectrum ). It is found that there are 6 infrared absorption modes of glycerol include νOH, νasCH2, νsCH2, δCH2, νasC-O and νsC-O . With the increase of temperature, the corresponding infrared absorption intensity of the main functional groups of glycerol decrease, and the corresponding infrared absorption frequency and peak pattern change obviously. This study shows that variable temperature infrared spectrum plays an important role in stability analysis of glycol.
