Abstract In the process of vanadium extraction from baking vanadium slag, selecting the proper additional reagents and their appropriate proportion has a great influence on the baking conversion rate of vanadium slag and the normal production. Based on the principle of inceasing vanadium conversion rate, easily handling follow-up processes, and cheap and readily available materials, the behaviors and salt forming process of additional reagents NaCl, Na2CO3 and Na2SO4 were introduced, the choice of additional reagents and the determination of their amount were explored. The experimental results show that adopting the mixed sodium salt additional reagent of mainly Na2CO3 with small amount of NaCl can reduce the production costs, increase the baking conversion rate and decrease the alkalinity of the leaching solution.
