Abstract In order to solve the problem that there were a large number of empty roadways in No. 15105 Face of Xianquan Coal Industry in Changzhi, which may lead to roof accidents caused by strong dynamic load during the mining process, FLAC3D numerical simulation software was used to calculate the advance support stress during the working face near the abandoned roadways, and the filling pillar parameters were designed according to this. The same material was used to obtain different compressive strength supports, which met the different structural requirements of filling pillars. The practice proved that after the filling pillar was used to support the open roadway of the working face, there was no large-scale sheet wall, roof collapse and support crushing in the process of mining, and the working face passed through the open roadway smoothly.
