Abstract In order to study working reliability of planetary mechanism of shearer, rigid flexible coupling model of planetary reducer was established to determine two simulation cases of cutting pure coal and hard nodule. The external load of shearer was calculated based on stress model of cylinder, whose establishing model was made virtual simulation. As a result, variation of contact between annular gear and planetary wheel under different working conditions was got, at the same time, equivalent stress distribution of annular gear and solar wheel under bad working conditions was found out. The result provided reference for design and optimization of planetary reduction mechanism of coal cutter.
