Abstract Recently, the problem of veterinary drug residues in animal derived food has drawn wide attention in the world. It is imperative to develop rapid, simple, highly sensitive, and high-throughput analytical methods for veterinary drug residues.The development and application of physical and chemical analysis, immune and biosensor detection technology of veterinary drug residues were introduced. Possible future directions in the analytical methods used for veterinary drug residues were also outlined. It is put forward that the development directions of veterinary drug residue analysis testing technology are higher sensitivity and lower detection limit, higher selectivity and specificity and anti-interference ability, analyze more samples per unit time, determine the remains of a variety of veterinary medicine at the same time,realize the integration of pretreatment and determination, develop more combination technologies; reduce pollution and realize the environment friendly, and the screening of veterinary drug residue, and quantitative and corroborate should be further developed and researched.
