Abstract Reasonable section coal column can reduce the difficulty of roadway maintenance and decrease the loss of mining area coal resources, which has a direct impact for the integration of the economic benefits of mine. 30101working face geological condition was taken as the engineering background, ultimate balance theory was taken to analyze section coal pillar abutment pressure and the elastic-plastic deformation zone, finite difference numerical software was used to simulate elastic and plastic zone distribution and stress field change rule under different coal pillar width, the reasonable coal width was 15 m.
