Abstract Due to the lack of 8 ~ 0 mm particle size separation means in Shengxin Mine,the product quality is greatly affected by the quality of raw coal.So inorder to ensure the quality of commercial coal, reduce the ash content of commercial coal, increase the calorific value, and reduce the influence of raw coal quality fluctuation on the quality of commercial coal, the lower limit of washing of heavy medium shallow groove is studied and four schemes were explored and compared, namely : + 13 mm particle size heavy medium shallow trough, -13 mm particle size dry separation ; + 13 mm heavy medium shallow groove separation, 13 ~ 3 mm heavy medium cyclone separation ; + 13 mm heavy medium shallow groove separation, 13 ~ 0 mm heavy medium cyclone separation ; + 3 mm heavy medium shallow groove sorting, - 3 mm particle size is not washed. Through the analysis of the scheme, benefit calculation, comparison of advantages and disadvantages, the scheme of + 3 mm dense medium shallow groove separation and -3 mm particle size non-washing was selected and implemented. Finally, the quality of commercial coal was effectively guaranteed, and the washing index was also effectively controlled, which fundamentally reversed the situation of poor commodity quality. The practice of dense medium shallow groove separation of non-caking coal provides a reference for the separation of thermal coal in coal preparation industry.
