Abstract As an importantly basic chemical raw material, ethylene glycol is mainly used for preparing antifreeze and polyester fiber. Deemed as a vital index to measure the quality of ethylene glycol products, UV transmittance (UV value) has great effect on downstream industries including the coloring, strength and color of the polyester. The internal and external factors of coal-based ethylene glycol were presented from containing raw materials, production process control, quality inspection, storage, loading and unloading, transportation, etc. all of which affect the product quality, and combinating with our practical experience in the production and operation of coal-based ethylene glycol, the work supplies the key points and operational precautions of quality control for this process. The references for the total quality management of coal-based ethylene glycol in our corporation and the same industry were provided.
