Polymyxin B is a kind of ten peptide antibiotics produced by fermentation, its clinical application almost stopped from 1970 to 1980 because of its higher toxicity. In recent years,gram-negative bacterial strains with multiple antiboby drug resistance have been found in the intensive care unit,so in the absence of new effective antimicrobial agents against these pathogens,it is necessary to carry out research on polymyxin B.The structure,characteristics,mechanism of action and production methods of polymyxin B were introduced.It was put forward with the establishment of rational drug and further study on the toxicity, polymyxin B will usher in a broader space for development.
