Abstract: The average density of each density level is often used in coal preparation calculation. The traditional method is to take the arithmetic mean of the upper and lower limits of the density range of each density level as its average density. Although this method is simple, it will bring large errors. However, if the average density of each density level is accurately calculated according to the principle of mass conservation, due to the integral term in the calculation formula of the average density, it is generally necessary to use computer programming for accurate calculation, which is very cumbersome. In view of this situation, this paper provides a simple method to obtain the average density of each density level by using the Gauss integral formula approximation method with the help of Excel.
