Parapropanol was synthesized from p-aminophenol and propionic acid. with activated carbon as decolorizing agent and sodium pyrosulfite as antioxidant. The effects of different reaction conditions, such as molar ratio of raw materials, reaction time and reaction temperature on the yield were studied. Experimental results showed that when p-aminophenol and propionic acid molar ratio was 1∶1.3, reaction temperature was 110 ℃, reaction time was 3 h, the parapropanol yield was up to 90%. The structure of the product was characterized by melting point determination and liquid chromatography analysis, the purity was 98.7%.
