In order to analyze characteristics of coal thickness in southern - 690 level of Donghuantuo Coal Mine, descriptive statistics analysis was made by frequency analysis of applying the SPSS on the basis of borehole thickness data in the statistical area, and coal thickness contour maps were analyzed through Cleveland gold interpolation by surfer sofeware. Based on the results, recoverable index and coefficient of variation of coal seam were calculated. The division of coal seam thickness, stable degree level, spatial variation characteristics of coal thickness and locations of non-mining areas were evaluated, which provided guidance for the mining work in southern area of - 690 level.
