Mining cities were not only typical urban areas for studying changed of land utilization and land cover, but also an important perspective of studying human land system. Due to mining cities had strong dependence on natural resources, problems of resource depletion, environmental degradation and other issues seriously restricted its development. Therefore, transformation and sustainable development of mining cities were extremely urgent. In recent years, with the development of remote sensing platform and continuous application of high-resolution images in life research, remote sensing and geographic information technology had entered public's perspective and gradually replaced conventional land use survey, Therefore, using remote sensing images to carry out temporal and spatial variation monitoring of land utilization had become an important technical means to study land use change. Based on method of literature summarizing, Mining cities’ conceptions, classifications and developing problems were concluded, along with elaborating its change process of land use, which provided some references for their economic transitions and sustainable developments.
