Abstract: In order to study the influence of different water content on the mechanical characteristics of weakly cemented sandstone, the weakly cemented sandstone in the Hongqinghe Mine was taken as the research object, and uniaxial compression tests on weakly cemented rocks under different water content were conducted. The results showed that there was significant influence of water content rate on the mechanical properties of the rock. With the increase of water content, the non-linearity of weak cemented sandstone in the early stage of loading and the brittle drop after peak were more obvious; the water content was negatively correlated with the peak strength and elastic modulus of the rock. Compared with the dry rock sample, the peak strength of the rock samples with the water content of 2.31%, 5.47%, and 7.72% decreased by 25.2%, 47.6%, and 59.2% respectively, and the elastic modulus decreased by 29.9%, 43.1%, and 53.1% respectively. With the increase of water content, the failure mode of the sample gradually changed from split failure to shear failure.
