Research of oxidative degradation of erythromycin in water by sodium persulfate activated by ferrous ions

Because the traditional water treatment method is more difficult to deal with the antibiotics in water, the degradations of erythromycin in water using sulfate radical generated by ferrous ion-activated sodium persulfate were studied. The effects of Na2S2O8 dosage, initial pH value and molar ratio of Na2S2O8 to Fe2+ on degradation were investigated. The results show that with the greater concentration of Na2S2O8 in a certain range, the greater the degradation rate is; in alkaline condition, the degradation effect of erythromycin is better; when the molar ratio of Na2S2O8 to Fe2+ is 2∶1, degradation rate is the highest, and instead of increasing the proportion of the degradation the rate is decreased.
