Oxidative degradation of congo red (CR) in aqueous solution by resin of zero valent iron nanoparticles (NZVI, nanoscale zero-valentiron)and activated sodium peroxydisulfate (PDS) was investigated. The degradation process was based on generation of sulfate radicalsas powerful oxidizing species. The effects of temperature, pH value, the dosages of NZVI-resin, the concentration of sodium persulfate on congo red were examined in batch experiments. In addition, its degradation kinetics was discussed. The results showed that under the condition of pH = 3, Fe0 dosage 0.067 g·L-1, Na2S2O8 dosage 0.67 g·L-1, the degradation efficiency of a initial CR concentration 20 mg·L-1could reach 84.59%,and the degradation of congo red followed the first order kinetics.
