Abstract Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the mixed alcohol by-product of the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis unit was done by characterization methods of determination of suspended solids content, XRF, ICP, laser particle size distribution analyzer, GC-MS and so on. The removal methods of solid impurities, organic impurities, metal ions, acid components and other harmful substances in mixed alcohols were studied. The results showed that the optimized mixed alcohol treatment plan included three steps: filtration, metal ion removal and acid component removal, and the mixed alcohol treated by this method could meet the feed requirements of the MTP reaction.
