Abstract According to the actual production of Xingdong Coal Mine, it was necessary to excavate a 34° large slope roadway. In this mine, the construction methods such as artificial support construction platform and gangue curtain were made in the heading face, and the gangue was discharged by the rake rock machine and the rear scraper conveyor. The continuous, efficient and safe excavation of the heading face in the rock roadway was realized. The construction task of 70 m excavation was completed within 20 days, which created a precedent for the large slope uphill excavation of the roadway in Xingdong Mine according to the special requirements. The results showed that the existing construction method solved the difficulties in practical work through small reform, which improved the construction efficiency and reduced the labor intensity of workers. It had certain reference and guiding significance for the tunneling construction of other similar large slope roadways.
