Abstract In order to control the first caving step distance of hard roof, reduce the break of mine pressure appear to hydraulic support, and guarantee the mining safety, the forced pre-split blasting technology was carried out in the fully mechanized working face of No.1812. After implementation, the immediate roof in the upper face of 1#-49# hydraulic support caved first. The immediate roof in the middle and lower part caved with the working face advancing to 19 m. The integrity and continuity of the direct roof were destroyed, and the goaf was filled with gangue, reduced the space for harmful gas accumulation, and ensured the safe and effective mining of the working face.
